The case study focuses on an innovation in the field of precision farming, the Yara N-Sensor. This more than 15-year-old research-based innovation is used for site-specific nitrogen, growth regulator and fungicide application. Main impacts are adaptation of nitrogen (N) to the actual need, higher net earnings, the reduction of inputs in the agro-ecosystem and learning among users and non-users. We trace back the innovation pathway, describe key factors and draw conclusions for research and innovation in EU agriculture.
